Out of the thousands of entries that were received for the Goodyear Highway Hero program, Junichi has been nominated as one of the four finalists. Goodyear should be sending out a national press release very soon.
The program’s goal is to inform the broadest possible public audience of the heroic deeds performed by North America Highway Hero nominees, thereby improving the image of the trucking industry and its drivers. Nominations from among the 50 states and all the provinces of Canada are accepted.

Once the nominations are narrowed to four finalists, media attention is directed even more to the program. Extensive television and print media coverage is possible from the national awards announcement.
Goodyear is sending Junichi to the Mid America Trucking show in Louisville KY Mar 25-28 along with the 3 other finalists.

This will be the 3rd recognition for Junichi, the Truckload Carriers Association named Junichi a Highway Angel for his efforts in saving several victims of a collision.
On Feb. 20, Shimizu was driving his tractor-trailer westbound along State Route 12 in California, when a silver car traveling eastbound crashed into a black sedan in front of him. With the silver car bursting into flames, Shimizu pulled over and ran to help the victim, breaking the glass and pulling the driver out to safety. By the time he brought over his fire extinguisher, the fire was too out of control to stop, so he focused on helping the victims in the black sedan. "I could see that the driver of the sedan was dead, so I grabbed some moving pads from my truck and covered the body," Shimizu said. "I wanted to shield it from gawking passersby."The other two passengers in the sedan survived, along with the driver of the silver car, with moderate to severe injuries. Shimizu was questioned for almost two hours by the police. "The whole thing was a big mess," he said. It took more than three months to get his truck repaired.
In April, he also received a certificate of commendation from the California Highway Patrol.
